He has an Associate in Applied Sciences Degree in Machine Tool Technology from the Pennsylvania College of Technology, Vocational Education Level II certification from Temple University, and National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) Level II certifications.
Eric S. Hopewill teaches at Berks Career and Technology Center West in Leesport, Pennsylvania. He has an Associate in Applied Sciences Degree in Tool Technology from the Pennsylvania College of Technology and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Albright College. A really good book for learning modern machining

This is an excellent book. The photography and drawings are excellent and make understanding the topic much easier. All the major areas of machining are covered in this well written book. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to understand modern machining in depth. I have both the hard cover version as well as the Kindle version on my notebook. If you get the Kindle version I recommend using a reader with color capability to take advantage of the photos.

doesn't give me a good impression of NIMS as an organization

It's the required text for a class I'm am taking. Would not have purchased otherwise. There is a breadth of information covered but not so much depth. Found several typos; doesn't give me a good impression of NIMS as an organization.

Good introductory text

Good beginner text, definitely good for trade school if your class uses it. Teaches introductory skills about all aspects of machining - from measurement, planning, layout, and basic machining operations. Some moderate details. Won't make you an expert in any particular thing, but is not intended to. For example, they tell you about machining operations in CNC, and what things these machines can do that conventional machines can't, but it won't make you a CNC programmer. I got what I was expecting from this book - foundational skills that I need in my work, that no one had ever taught me - things they assume you know.
